Win 7 copy to XP Hangs a minute (calculating) then  "Problem Accessing Share..." Some files copied.
1. From Win 7 set up share to XP 2. Attempt to Copy win 7 Folder to XP - Small folder 9 file, Large folder 1300+ files 3. During copy, Hangs with calculating message for a minute Then "There is a problem accessing \Sharename" - Try Again, Skip, Cancel Press Skip, copy continues, then Hangs again For Small folder 8 of 9 files copied. For Large folder, first hang 9 files, second hang ~90 files. On one occasion, Message "The selected network name is no longer available". Having said that, some types of copies work Copy a single file at a time from Win 7 to XP works Save Win 7 image backup (36 gigs) to XP works From Win 7 copy from (pull) Xp files to Win 7 works, 120 gigs, thousands of files From XP virtual mode in Win 7 copied 1300+ files to XP works. So, only thing that doesn't work is copying Win 7 folders to XP System - Win 7 pro 64 bit, Q6700, 4 Gig Mem, All current MS updatesTo XP Pro 32 bit, Q6600, 4 Gig mem, SP3, Wired gig network, All current MS updates

Try booting both computers into "Safe mode with networking" if both use cable connection and test there. If u cannot boot to Safe mode, u could perform selective startup or simply wichever Antivirus/Firewall software you have.I'm saying that because i once saw BitDefender causing very similar issue to yours.Selective startup: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796Safe mode with networking: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434Please post feedback.

Windows 7 has a Microsoft program Robocopy.exe included, and it is in the path. This programs real name is Robust Copy, and it will copy anything that can be copied, and was first written in the days of NT 4.0 for copying large files across very slow very unreliable networks.Try one of these; On the Windows 7 box click Sart, click Run, Type CMD, Press Enter. A DOS box should appear, and type in that robocopy c:\users\me\music\country \\fred\music\country /mirWhere c:\users\me\music\country is the name of the folder that you want to copy, fred is the network workgroup name of the XP box, and music is the network share name on the xp box that you want the country folder, and it's contents including folders and their files. If you have weirdo folder names like c:\users\me\my country music just simply put " either end, like this "c:\users\me\my country music" and it will work.If you have the windows XP network share Mapped, as say Z drive on the Windows 7 boxthen the command would be robocopy c:\users\me\music\country z:\country /mir Hope This Helps,Viv.Regards, Viv.

ok, I rebooted Win 7 and XP in safe mode with networking and copied 5 gigs of files from win 7 to xp - this Worked! Then I rebooted Win 7 to normal mode and copied 5 gigs of files to XP - This worked I then rebooted XP to normal mode and could not copy files - Failed I had 3 anti virus/ ad-ware programs which were currently installed. I removed all and could still not copy files to xp. I also have Norton Internet Security 2010 installed on both XP and Win 7. I disabled both the firewall and antivirus functions on both system and could not copy files to xp. I then uninstalled Norton 2010 and was able to copy 10 gig of files ok. Worked! Ok, so now I can copy Win 7 to XP, but what about Norton. I then installed Norton Internet Security 2009 first as I need this to upgrade to 2010 I tried copying files to XP but they Failed! I went back and uninstalled Norton 2009 and tried copying files and it Worked! So, without Norton, I can copy files from Win 7 to XP, but is it really a Norton problem. Since I was able to do a 35 gig image backup of Win 7 to XP with Norton running on both systems, although the image backup only has 10-15 files. Quantity of files does seem to be a problem. I was also able to pull 120 gig of files (thousands) from XP in virtual XP mode from Win 7 with Norton running on both systems. Kind of sounds like XP to XP works with Norton, just not 7 to XP???? So, any thought are appreciated. Thanks for the help

I'm really glad things started to work in Safe Mode, anyway lets get back the topic:It is 100% Norton issue, any way you look at it, Norton might not be fully compatible with your other settings or anti malware software( not recommended anyway), configuration of Norton may be different from system to system. Obiouslly if you want to continue using Norton AND Sharing, something in Norton configuration will have to be changed, unfortunatelly i cannot help u with that since i dont know Norton. Maybe try contacting Norton Support ?

The troubleshoot process is great. As Gosu128 said it is a Norton issue. You can check settings of Norton on Windows XP to see if there is anything related to network and/or change settings each time with a copy file test. Contact Norton is necessary if we cannot find a solution as they may already provided patch or workaround for this issue.
